Evaluation Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Film Certification
My film is going to be a 15 because the audience for this is quite mature and there is a strong use of drugs and violence in my media product. This is because the audience is mature enough to see the violence of the extract and the use of drugs but the violence isn't too gory or bad for the audience to see. Therefore, the audience is fine to watch this level of maturity in our media product.

Research into similar products
I researched other existing thriller films and their film certificates ranged from a 12A to a 15, which shows that there is already a pre existing audience for the thriller genre. An example would be Limitless which was rated 15 for the drug use, nudity, and violence in the film. This was a great example to use for researching existing products. This is because our media product also contains drug use and violence, making clear similarities to Limitless. Another example of an existing example of media products would be the thriller film called Se7en. However this film is classified as an 18 rated film. This is due to the violence and threat in the film is at a very high level with strong and gory crime scenes with there also being a strong sense of horror and threat running throughout.

Questionnaires
I asked a couple of people what they would expect to see and what not to see in the different categorised age ratings. These would include 12, 12A, 15 and 18. For 12 and 12A, they said that discriminatory language or behaviour must be mild and not aggressive. Drug use must not be frequent and should not be glamorised. Language may be moderate and strong language may be used depending on the manner in which it is used. People said that 15 rated films could include racist, homophobic or other discriminatory themes and language. Drug taking may be shown but the work as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse. As well as that, there are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context. 18 rated films are the strongest type of films that are there are not many restrictions of 18 films. A main restriction is that the film may not endorse racist material and may not support the racist themes shown in the film.

Interviews
After interviewing a couple of people in our product's age bracket using my questionnaire, i gained more information about how people view the content of the age rating in our media product. They said that the violence and drug use was just right for the age certification that we decided to put with our product and that the there is not a need to change the selected age rating.

Conclusion
In conclusion, i think that it would be best to make the target audience for my product a 15 rated product and there is not too much of a high level of violence and the drug use is not to an extreme level that would make it an 18 rated film.
